A Compliment or Two

It’s so easy to underestimate the power of a simple compliment. My sister complimented my makeup today, and I felt it in my body.

My heart fluttered, my face flushed, my hands flew to my chest.

“Oh my god, thank you!” I gushed. I meant it, I was so grateful. I had spent time on my makeup that morning and knowing that it looked good to someone else made me feel wonderful.

Too often we walk around, swaddled in our own thoughts about our own worlds, and we forget to notice the person next to us. Do they not deserve your smile, your greeting, a simple compliment to make their face flush?

Why are we so sheltered from each other, afraid to shed a little light in someone else’s life?

The next time you see a girl with cute hair, a man with dapper shoes, a child with a totally cool outfit, why not tell them? It may make more of a difference than you know.

You have a beautiful smile, by the way.
